The Life of St. Photios the Great

The holy hierarch, St. Photios, was a man aflame with prayer, illumined intelligence, and a churchliness which served his generation and those since as a touchstone of Holy Orthodoxy. St. Photios, the Great, 9th century Patriarch of Constantinople is known by the Church as one of the "Pillars of Orthodoxy" and a model hierarch.  He was also a magnificent missionary, and the scourge of the papal promoters of the filioque heresy and papal primacy. His light shines as brightly today as it did twelve centuries ago. This life of St. Photios was written by the recently glorified saint of Serbia, Justin (Popovich) of Chilije.
